Advocating for and protecting the fundamental right of all people to freedom of religion, belief, and conscience
Committed to a biblical understanding of the image of God in every person, we defend an ethic of life; support religious freedom for all; stand in solidarity with the marginalized; advocate at every level; train and network proactively; and mobilize for religious freedom, human rights, and justice.
With a rich heritage of championing the rights of all people, Baptists have supported religious liberty since 1612, when Thomas Helwys wrote the first plea in the English language for religious freedom, “A Short Declaration of the Mystery of Iniquity.”
Many of the believers in the 126 countries and territories where the Baptist World Alliance operates face daily persecution for their faith.
To face this challenge and to continue to uphold the Baptist heritage of Religious Freedom, the Baptist World Alliance is partnering with 21Wilberforce to launch the BWA Religious Freedom Network to equip believers with the resources and connections to advance religious freedom in their communities and around the world.
